My third graders are a diverse population of low-income students. Many of whom are still recovering from the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey. Despite the adverse childhood experiences they face daily, they arrive to school eager to learn and grow! My students are creative, resilient, and fun! 70% of my students are reading at least one or two grade levels below where they should be at the beginning of the third grade. Many of them lack the necessary reading materials at home to succeed in reading. To close the gaps in their learning, they need extra practice outside of the daily classroom instruction.
