Students on our reading bowl teams must read books from the assigned book list which comes from the GA Children's Book Award nominees. As they read the assigned books, they must be able to recall any and every fact and detail about the book in order to answer questions during the reading bowl competitions. They must reread the books multiple times in order to accomplish this task. When having to share books with other students it makes it difficult to have time to study the books thoroughly.
My students each need access to all of the books on the list without having to wait for other students to finish reading the book and pass it on. During the 2020-2021 school year, the students struggled to have access to the books assigned to read because of not meeting together face-to-face due to COVID. By not meeting face-to-face students were not able to pass the books onto other students to read.
During the past 3 years, these 2 teams have placed 4 out of 6 times in our county competitions. We want to continue our winning streak as these students "SHOW WHAT THEY KNOW" while also enjoying a wide variety of literature genes for students.
