My students are Alaskan Natives and as such, in their culture they do much of their learning on the floor. They are more comfortable sitting on the floor than in a desk. Sitting on the floor is how they have learned beading, sewing, fishing, Yuraq (native dancing), listen to stories from their Elders, and thanks to your contribution, how they will learn math, science, English, and Yupik. These students are most comfortable learning with their bodies. They use their finger knuckles to skip count by three. They use dance to ensure story comprehension. They play games to understand social success. Their culture is based on movement, and flexible seating will allow their culture to be honored in school and allow them to increase learning.
