I am new to the area of middle school and do not have much in the way of items to help students calm down. I do have experience working with Sensory Integration Therapy (SIT) with children. SIT has often been utilized with children with autism, but students who have experienced trauma also can benefit from sensory integration therapy. I would like to utilize this therapy with my own students who need to have time to process their feelings and calm down. Research has shown that an integration of a variety of tools such as fidget toys, kinetic sand, coloring, and visual stimulation aids students through sensory integration therapy. The way that students take in calming stimuli varies from child to child, and therefore, I am seeking a wide variety of items to help students find their calm place.
