Science, especially Chemistry is not a very easy course for many students. What makes it especially difficult is the “building up” nature of concepts and practices. The proper sequence of lessons and the availability of carefully organized previous notes, activities and artifacts are crucial to a meaningful understanding of the next lesson and preparing for what is ahead. With the current emphasis on the Next Generation Science Standards as the expectation for both students and teachers, it has become imperative especially to me as a teacher, that the learning process focuses on the quality and depth of knowledge and skills in science. The majority of your donations ( binders, notebooks, labels, and highlighters ) will allow my students to get off to a good start and increase their academic achievement as time goes by. You are not only going to help them establish an effective system of collecting and organizing the learning materials, but you are also going to make it possible for them to take ownership of their own learning. My project will also be aligned with the school’s instructional focus on annotation and summarization for better reading comprehension. When you make it possible for my students to organize their work, making connections with concepts learned, purposeful and tangible learning becomes evident. In turn, they become more engaged and proactive members of the learning environment.
