The science of reading has gotten a lot of attention lately in the media. It is a known fact that children must be taught to read, and up to 20% of children need explicit, systematic, cumulative, multi-sensory instruction-previously referred to as the Orton Gillingham method, and currently known as Structured Literacy. The books I am asking for will serve as a vehicle for exactly this type of instruction. I teach Alphabetic Phonics and The Sound Case, intervention and early literacy programs which are both research based. Each lesson includes one or two of the listed books, engaging students, connects the learning with rich texts, and keeps them hooked and interested through the lesson. Even though my school district supports my teaching these programs, as a teacher I have still had to pay for my own training and the materials for the programs. The programs suggest and tie their lessons to the books I am asking for, but does not include them in the materials. Please help launch my students in the right direction, and support this project so that every child can learn to read. Thank you!
