My students need composition notebooks, colored paper, markers, colored pencils, tape, glue, pencils, a pencil sharpener, highlighters, and pens. I began incorporating Interactive Notebooks this past school year. It is a great tool for learning whereas students are able to personalize and make meaning of the information presented in class such as reading skills, language and grammar, and vocabulary using notes and graphic organizers. Additionally, it functions as a powerful study tool and a working portfolio. Furthermore, "IANS" appeal to the multiple intelligences, encourages pride and ownership of student work, and reinforces organizational skills. Also, students are engaged and they help with college and career readiness. It is hands-on and students learn more by doing rather than just listening and viewing.
