My instrumental students, third, fourth and fifth graders in one of Pennsylvania's largest urban districts, are as capable as any others yet face the financial and social hardships common to inner-cities. My students love to work hard, to practice and to play their instruments. Especially for that reason, I love to share with them the joy of musical expression through learning to play an instrument. I use wind, string and percussion instruments to teach my students the freedom of expressing their hearts and sharing that expression with others. I believe that their surroundings do not limit their potential and neither should their access to musical instruments. In fact, their daily struggles and experiences fuel their expression and drive to create music. My dream is that the inability to afford the monthly rental of an instrument will never keep an interested student from participating in my program.
