I teach a weekly STEM class focusing on engineering and computer science (robotics & coding) for students in PK-5th grade. Students enjoy participating in hands on activities, where they are expected to problem solve, think critically, and work collaboratively to complete engineering or computer programming activities. Connecting literature to STEM concepts is so beneficial and vital to student learning. Lessons in my class typically begin with a whole class read aloud that is tied in to the activity students will be completing that day. My school and public libraries have been great resources, allowing me to borrow books for lessons, but ideally, I would like to build a permanent classroom library featuring books related to various STEM concepts. In doing so, students will have year-long access to these wonderful resources!
