We are a Title 1 school in North Carolina, our demographics are 40% Latin, 40% Black, 7% Asian, and 3% White. They are a lively bunch ready to learn, but more often than not they do not have the tools to do so at home due to monetary needs and parental support (due to working or out of the picture). My students enjoy Math the most and it is my goal this year for them to leave 4th grade in love with Reading. In the beginning of the school year we have talked about our struggles with reading and a lot of my students do not feel like they have success in the area, so therefore they would rather give up than try. Through the "Hot Dots" it provides a hands on tool to improve those essential skills in math, reading, and science (3 main subjects in 4th grade). Title 1 students need more hands on experiences because they are not provided this type of learning experience at home due to many factors.
