Flexible seating would be used every day, all day in my classroom. If there's one thing I know for certain about kids, it's that they all learn differently. Having a variety of places for my students to sit around the room where they can focus in their own way is the ideal solution to my problem. I want my students to have a choice of where they sit throughout the day and to be able to move around the classroom freely when working in groups, reading, or working independently. Research shows that giving students some control over their environment increases their learning. It's no secret that students need to move, and with flexible seating, my students will be able to bounce, wobble, lean, twist, kneel and sit without being disruptive or distracting to others. I believe that my students will be more comfortable using these forms of seating options and, therefore, will be more calm, focused, and productive. Finally, flexible seating options stimulate students' sense of touch. This stimulation can help students focus and process information. Sensory input is especially helpful for students with ADD, ADHD, and ASD.
