My classroom is full of students who are not used to having much go right for them. They don't have much money and for many of them, school is one of the first places they will feel successful. They are passionate and empathetic and truly understand pain and emotion, especially when we read poetry or discuss past historical events. My students find safety and stability in coming to school and know I am not only rooting for them but will challenge them to become great while doing everything I can to help them get there.
