Small desks leave little room for creativity and collaboration. My classes are all performance based, which means my students get ample opportunities to work in groups and to work on large projects. The small desks we have do not support the kind of space my students need to be creative. From our costume design unit, table reads of plays, space for building model theaters to design sets, to stations, and workshops, the tables would give my students the opportunity to collaborate and create without the restrictions of their physical space. I try to make working together less frustrating and more engaging and having the space they need will help my students feel connected to their groups and their project!
