Forensic anthropology is the epicenter of an entire unit for 7th grade English. We have been reading an informational text titled Written in Bone, which discusses the buried lives of Jamestown colonists. These Chromebooks will aid our students in their participation of further research and their creation of depicting a colonist's life before death and his or her cause of death. Students are becoming scientists, specifically forensic anthropologists, in the English classroom by uncovering a multitude of mysteries behind the lives and burials of colonists from the 17th-18th centuries in America. Not only are they becoming researchers, our students will create a historical record of a person from this time period, including their life history, cause of death, and location/type of burial. Furthermore, pairs, or groups of students, will synthesize a narrative in reference to their person's life during his or her time in America. Students must know how to conduct proper research to ensure prosperous lives within school and after graduation. All of the skills utilized in this activity will benefit our children's future!
