I am a new teacher, with new students, in a new building built in a new location! Here on the bayou, nestled deep within South Louisiana, I teach 10 struggling students with specific learning disabilities in the areas of reading and math. With the construction of our new school this past summer, we needed quite a few items, so our funding is quite depleted at this point. We needed to buy chairs, desks, copy machines, cafeteria tables and equipment, Promethean boards, and new white boards. We also needed to buy the basic necessities for opening a brand new school in a short period of time; however, our classrooms are still lacking in supplies to further enrich the lives of our students. My special education intervention room is still in the need of the basics such as chairs and tables. These essential pieces of furniture would be extremely beneficial to our classroom and would enhance the learning process. Currently, we are sitting on chairs that are too tiny in which the students have to sit on their legs to reach the computers and the tiny table I borrowed for the time being.
