As a therapist traveling between schools in a low income district, I hear and see many of the difficulties my students face on a daily basis. Many come from single or split parent families, and some with heart wrenching backgrounds. They attend a district with variable needs; one that provides free food to the majority of the population, and with some of the schools being limited in resources. Some of my students are refugees from the middle east. My 'classroom' is comprised of over 10 buildings. My students range from preschool through twelfth grade and have a wide range of abilities and needs, with eligibility indicators including but not limited to, ADHD, autism, physical disabilities, emotional regulation difficulties, and/or speech/fine motor delays. My students are FUN, creative, and sometimes challenging, yet they are always determined to beat the odds.
