I am a teacher for a Project SEARCH classroom in NC. My students apply, interview and are accepted to the program for their last year of high school as a transition to get ready for post-high school life changes. My students rotate through three different 10-week internships throughout the year where they learn to do a variety of jobs throughout the hospital. This is a very tough program and requires a lot of stamina, learning, change, and hardship for my students. They essentially have one year to grow up and mature into appropriate and respectable young adults. They have to learn how to change their behavior and understand why they cannot act the same way in a business environment as they did at school. They have to learn that their actions have consequences that can be long-term and the effects of what they do and say on their future. My students work hard every day; physically and emotionally.
