With my school having 1200 students there is a somewhat diverse population with a wide range of economic background. With one full time school counselor (me) here it is very difficult to get a grasp on all the needs of the students. Therefore, it is imperative that I rely on the teachers, parents and students for input. Each year I make a needs assessment for the stakeholders so that I can plan my curriculum around what they feel they feel our students need the most. Each year I am getting more feedback that our students need more social skills training and emotional regulation skills. Students in my school, as in this generation in general, are highly in tune with technology. It feels comfortable to them, often more comfortable than face to face interactions with others. Yet, relationships with others is often essential to every aspect of a successful life. Incorporating iPads into teaching these skills will increase buy in and allow efficient learning opportunities.
