I am assembling multiple teams of 7th and 8th grade girls to compete in the Wonder League Robotics competition. For this competition, students will use the CUE Coding Robot to complete a series of missions. These missions help build growth mindset, teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity skills. This will be the first time our school has offered girls the opportunity to learn how to code at school, let alone the opportunity to compete in a world wide coding competition. Our school offers a wide array of athletics and creative after school opportunities. But, we have been lacking STEM opportunities that 1. engage students in real world problems and 2. provide safe spaces for young women to explore STEM fields in the comfort of people who identify the same way as themselves. It will also be a great middle school compliment to the high school app building competition I will be running for the first time as well. In addition to use for the Wonder League Robotics Competition, these robots will be available for use during makerspace time and for any teacher in the school to check out and use in their classes. Ultimately, allowing more students to learn coding and interact with robots.
