I teach K-5 Special Education - Life Skills to kiddos with autism, speech-language impairments, and other significant developmental disabilities and behavioral disorders. In our classroom, we work a lot on communication skills - I've watched some of my students go from screaming and crying to full sentences throughout the course of a school year! We jump and dance; we laugh and sing with excited, energetic voices. We are messy and loud and we work *really* hard to become as independent as possible.
