With the new sewing kits and fabric students will learn the basics of hand-sewing and embroidery while sewing a basic hand puppet. They will then create several group narratives and use the other art supplies yarn, google eyes, feathers, etc to make their puppets match the characters they have created and costume them appropriately. Through this project, students will learn creative problem solving, teamwork, and have the opportunity to present to their peers and children in the community. This project will allow my students to explore their creative voice, while devoloping many practical life skills. They will explore the Art of Puppetry and Storytelling. This project provides the more timid students an opportunity to be bold, as the puppet gives them permission to push past their comfort zone. At the same time, it teaches more active students to focus by forcing them to channel their energy into the puppet and the group.
