I teach first grade students in a Title 1 school in Oregon. I have students who do not have enough food to eat, money to buy new clothes, and parents who are working 2 or more jobs to be able to keep their families in their homes. My school has a 40% mobility rate, meaning that 40% of the students that I meet on the first day of school will have moved on sometime during the year and I will have a different 40% on the last day. With such a low socioeconomic status at my school, most of my students do not have access to literature or technology outside of their school day. My students are thirsty for knowledge, and I would love to give them the opportunity to use new tools to explore their education.
