Students love to be interactive with their learning and they also love the latest trends and fads. Most of my students are from low-income homes so they do not have these toys. Pop Its are the hottest fad for kids. Students use these fidget toys to repeatedly pop dimples in and out, similar to bubble wrap. These pop its were originally used to help children with stress or sensory difficulties. In addition to using them for this purpose in my classroom, I plan to create individual Covid-Safe, Pop It bags for students to use for math, reading, and word study. Activities can be differentiated to meet the unique academic needs of each child, as well as whole and small group lessons in math and spelling. For English Language Arts, students can "pop out" letter sounds, syllables, and words and even practice reading fluency. The Phonics Flash Cards and Activities will be in each bag to provide words and skills they can build on the Pop Its, which will be labeled with alphabet letters. For math, they can "pop out" numbers, add and subtract and practice skip counting and base ten operations. All of this while "playing" with the hottest toys. Pop Its will keep students engaged while they learn and work at their level. Imagine the smiles on their faces when it is time to Pop It in class or take it home for enrichment!
