My students will be using the journals and writing supplies requested to begin working on their emergent writing skills. Emergent writing is important for young children because it helps them understand that writing is a form of communication and that their marks on paper convey a message. I plan on assisting my students with their writing on a weekly basis through open-ended activities and modeling. Along with this, introducing my students to journal writing in K4 is very important because journal writing is a requirement in our school system for K5. By exposing my students to journal writing now I'm hoping that they will be able to carry over the writing skills they gain in K4 to their K5 classrooms.
