I'm lucky enough to have a "360 Math Classroom," where the walls are lined with white boards all around the room. Overwhelming research has been shown that that student who work on "vertical surfaces" are more engaged, spend more time on task and are less hesitant than when they work at desks. (See the book "Building Thinking Classrooms" by Peter Liljedahl for more information on this.) My students LOVE writing on the white boards, both individually and in groups. They get tired of sitting at desks all day. At the white boards, they're up, energized, can see their work better, and are more likely to take risks because they can so quickly erase any mistakes! While students love the Math 360 Classroom concept, I've discovered that it comes with a few challenges: * Markers and erasers easily get dropped, moved, and lost * Chaos can ensue if people are scrambling to find a marker or eraser when needed. * Markers run out of ink QUICKLY when students are using them all day! Please help my class get the supplies they need so they can thrive in this unique math classroom environment. Thank you!
