Any teacher can tell you that students are much more engaged doing hands-on experiments than they are listening to a lecture or reading out of a textbook. Unfortunately, our school is missing a stocked science lab so many of the tools and resources needed to implement exciting new experiments are nonexistent. With this project I would like the basic lab equipment needed for science inquiry projects. The graduated cylinders, beakers, thermometers, and balances will all be used throughout our unit on matter, we will be measuring the volume of liquids and taking the mass of different solids. The electricity kit will come into play when we learn about what makes a closed circuit. The microscope and magnifying glasses will help us make up close observations and collect data in multiple activities. These materials will take abstract ideas from a textbook and turn them into concrete thinking. By helping fund this project, you are funding 23 future scientists.
