My students will have the opportunity to design and build projects as related to our STEM curriculum. Presently, my budget is not large enough to offer as many hands-on activities as I would like. We are able to do a great deal of paper and pencil work, but that is generally where we have to stop without having donated materials from home. The items that I have chosen are magnetic building tiles. They come in different shapes and sizes. They are durable and quite popular as a hands-on building set. This week, alone, I had students design a car and/or a bridge. I do have one small set of these, so with 25 students, only a few were able to use them. This is pretty disappointing to the rest. I would use these materials with my core classes, my enrichment classes and my summer school classes. I believe my students would get a great deal of use from the particular materials that I have chosen as I have one small set of these, and it is difficult to spread them so thinly. My yearly budget is only $175, so I generally have to spend that on other supplies, and, of course, it does not go very far.
