As the world of research and reference moves from books into the cyber world, students utilize computers as means to gather information, and Bruce High School Library is seeking ways in which to meet these new media needs. The modern school library no longer is comprised of only print resources, but it now encompasses online databases, research websites, Google apps, and even an online library catalog which connects students with reliable web information. The library has transformed into a hub for gathering and sharing information, and computers are central in growing this sphere of endless information. At Bruce High School, we hope to purchase a library set of Chromebooks for students to use in their research purposes. Huddled around library tables, students will not only explore printed resources from the shelves, but online resources at their fingertips, as well. As they research and create their projects on Google apps, such as Google Docs or Google Slides, teachers and the librarian will facilitate meaningful research techniques and methods for finding reliable web information. Not only are students' media skills enhanced through the use of Chromebooks in library research, but their skills for future careers which require extensive media literacy are improved, too. Bruce High School has serious goals in moving the library into the 21st century of learning by the next school year, and the funds raised through this site will help accomplish these technology ambitions.
