My students are bright, thirsty for knowledge and love, and compassionate for others. My school has a majority of African American and Hispanic students who are itching to identify with the experiences of other Americans and connect their modern day world to the history they learn in their textbooks. About 22% of our student body is proficient in reading. By providing them with more opportunities to interact with text in a meaningful way the students will gain the opportunity to expand their literacy skills.
