Many students today come versed in technology. Technology is all around us whether we realize it or not, so much so, that they implemented ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) Standards within the classroom. If I want my students to soar in a competitive world, then I must provide the wings! The sheer confidence that a student has when they have learned how to both correctly and effectively complete an online document is thrilling! Our students thrive when they are able to see the teacher lead by example and then follow said example. My students LOVE working through their Digital Notebooks, and they are becoming responsible Digital Citizens. They are learning that what you type does matter and lasts forever. Whether we are researching a paper or coding a Dance Party, students are able to consistently work on their problem-solving and critical thinking skills. I have seen this improve their skills offline as well. Students become more independent. Students begin to take ownership of their work by searching for solutions before just waiting on an answer/paragraph to look in, focus on the trial-and-error process, and then they ask what THEY need to do differently. The HP ProBook will allow me to teach and assist my 5th grade students no matter which device they use by allowing student's to physically see what to click, monitor sites, and demonstrate every online assignment. In ELA, we often read and then type a summary, essay, or short answers. We use both a digital and physical newspapers for Social Studies, and I can show them the hidden gems of that website. Lastly, I will help my Coding Club (4th-6th) go to the next level. Please help me prepare our children for a competitive market!
