Tiny feet march around the room to the sound of the drum. The children speed up and slow down and laugh and giggle as they learn about the beat, rhythm, pitch, and unfamiliar names like Beethoven. Our kids especially love when they pull out the plastic recorders every year and the joyful screeching can be heard from far and near, but some families struggle to pay for even this cheap flute. If we provide a few classroom instruments that everyone can share, the students will be able to improve their confidence as well as practice harmony, note and rest values, and cooperating as a group to make beautiful music together. It would help so much if we could purchase the necessary tools for our elementary and middle school. The rhythm instruments like drums, tambourines and sticks teach our youngest scholars how to make a steady beat, and the xylobells will help our older students practice working in groups and sight reading music notes. With these instruments, our children can speak a common language as they fill our school with their songs.
