As a special education resource teacher, I teach Reading, Writing and Math to children with Learning Disabilities, Autism, ADHD and various difficulties and ability levels. We are a Title I school and many of my students come from homes that do not have books and current technology available. I work with our upper elementary grade levels and my job is to assess each child and design specialized instruction that will help lessen the gap between each student's skill set and the skills they should have at their current grade level. I group students by need and pull them in 30 minute blocks of time. I have to be flexible, ready to change my plans daily, and constantly think outside the box. If standard teaching methods worked, my students wouldn't need me, so I really strive to keep my kids engaged and having fun. My biggest goal is to build confidence in my students - when they're not afraid to try, they learn!
