Makerspaces are a new concept in the educational world that are set up as a space to express creativity. In the ever-growing world of STEAM related careers, creativity is one of the most important skills that future employers look for. Sure, we have the newest technology available at our fingertips, but can our students use that technology to create an original idea? I want to equip my students with the critical 21st century learning skills they will need to succeed in their career fields. A Makerspace provides an area of exploration with little to no guidelines. Materials as simple as pencil and paper to 3D printers and robotics will allow my students to find their creativity and let it shine. In the Makerspace, my students will be able to go in any direction their minds take them, boosting self confidence for even the quietest of students. The space will not restrict them to rules and expectations. The only expectation within my Makerspace will be to have fun!
