My students are very independent and want to learn to read. These Kindles will help the students become more self-assured as they learn pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary, and word usage. Having hands-on devices for learning is something students are familiar with using. They will have a chance to stop the reading and ask questions and go back to the text. If students read in a group, they build confidence in conversation with each other about the literature. At this point, the students get to exercise speaking the language. This strategy emphasizes comprehension. Reading puts them in place whereby they feel comfortable tackling an unfamiliar language with more enthusiasm.
