Science should be hands on. To explore circuits, students should be able to use wires, lights and batteries to see whether their understanding follows with proper technique of designing open and closed circuits. An effective science classroom needs to have the tools to allow the students to create in order to understand. Using a stopwatch to measure how fast a toy car runs down various incline planes gives concrete learning to what would be theoretical by reading it in a book. Students need supplies to make their lab experiments come to life. I feel it is extremely important to make sure that I have the supplies readily available in order to keep a high quality learning environment. Supplies like wires, lights, trays, glue guns and stopwatches will enhance a project-based learning environment. Every student is thankful for the opportunities I give them to get their hands on new projects. It is wonderful to watch them enthusiastically explore and engage with their partners. Every day they ask me what is next to study. With these supplies my students will be able will be able to enhance their learning and go deeper than with only doing the exploration through a book. The best way to increase science comprehension is by doing as many experiments as possible in order to make the connections to the reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in science and these supplies will only help enrich their experiences with the physical world.
