The ukulele is a very popular instrument and all of our students want to learn to play the ukulele. I currently have to borrow ukuleles from other schools' music programs in order to be able to offer this opportunity to my students. Having a classroom set of ukuleles will offer flexibility in the use of the instruments instead of planning around another school's use. Ukuleles will provide the opportunity to play chords that they are learning to read from a chord chart. Being able to strum as they play songs on a ukulele and sing along also helps to build self-esteem that they need.
