Owl pellets are masses of bones, teeth, hair, feathers, scales, and insect skeletons. They are regurgitated by owls, which swallow their prey whole. The owl pellets will give my students the opportunity to explore this topic hands-on, and not just read about it in a textbook. By dissecting owl pellets, my students will not only learn about owls and their diet, they will also gain an understanding of the predator/prey relationship, food chains and food webs in the owl's habitat. Students will gain an understanding of the importance of how living things interact with the environment.
