I am creating a program called "Reader of the Month" for my 6th grade ELA classroom. I am trying to encourage reading outside of what is required to improve skills and an overall interest in reading. We need books to encourage reading outside of class required literature. Our titles include Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Junie B. Jones, Unwind and many more. Our school does not have a library and many of our parents are working and may not have time to take their child to the public library. I want to have this resource in my room so that my students can check out books. I want my students to be able to imagine, escape, and grow with every character they encounter. I will track the reading with logs where the student will need to read every night and record the date, name of the book, page numbers read, genre, a short summary of the pages read, and a parent's signature. I will check these logs at the end of every week. The student who reads for the most days of the month will be reader of the month. They will get to take a picture with the Instagram frame I created and it will be posted in the classroom. They will also receive a prize to go with it.
