My students are located in a very difficult area of Antioch. They are not provided with much support at home and rely on much guidance about how to be a student in my classroom. They are dealing with major issues that are still shocking to me as an adult, and are often plagued with hunger and situations that are beyond their ages. 97% of my students are on free or reduced lunch and eat in the cafeteria everyday. They have family members in prison and some are raised by their sibling who are not much older than themselves.
