Autism is a cognitive developmental disorder that affects intellectual capacity, behavioral skills and social interaction. These exceptional middle school students, residing in South Carolina, come from a diversified socio-economic background and are a true representation of the Autistic Spectrum. Often times throughout the school day, our students have difficulty communicating their wants and needs, resulting in escalating frustration and spikes in their anxiety levels. These negative feelings along with their diverse Learning and Coping Styles necessitate the need for resources, such as a sensory room, that when properly equipped, addresses a variety of Tactile, Auditory, and Visual needs.
