I can't sit & work in a chair for a prolonged amount of time, so why would I expect my students to do the same thing? If children are in a comfortable and safe environment, they will grow, learn and thrive. Giving students a seating choice opens up a whole new dynamic of self-awareness. They become more aware of how they learn best and use that to their advantage. They can decide if they perform better on a wobble stool or seat. They can become more empowered with their learning! When I allow my students to simply grab a clip board spread around the room, they become more productive classroom citizens. Even sitting on my stability ball gave them the extra motivation to earn that privilege. Why shouldn't every student have that opportunity to be motivated to learn.
