Our students sometimes have difficulty functioning in society. They may have outbursts such as hitting or yelling because they are stressed. Our students need to be taught how to destress and relax and work out those emotions. They will be able to use the bean bags, music and light as tools to work on their challenging behaviors. Study show that sensory integration therapy improves daily function in those with autism and other processing disorders. Creating a sensory room for our students will provide them a moment of comfort and calm, and help them feel better engaged. This improves focus and prevents our students from getting the urge to lose their temper.
