Research and discovery propels the information of our world to new heights daily. As fiction can hold many of the classics for decades on decades, that is not the case with most nonfiction books. It is necessary to provide students material that is relevant to their current world. With updated nonfiction books like Follow the Moon Home and Freedom in Congo Square, our class will be able to read, think, and respond to current information. These books will be used in genre studies over various topics. I allow my students to choose the books they want to read for project or during personal reading time, and this project will give my students a wide variety of options.
