My kindergarten students are all English Language Learners who live under the poverty line. They mostly come from broken homes and many are new to the country and have never been in school before. Despite their disadvantages they are excited about school and learning. They are inquisitive and love school. I teach in a dual language program in which my students are split into two classes of 25 students. They alternate every other day between instruction in English and Spanish and are on their way to becoming not only bilingual but bi-literate.
