These simple tools will help enhance my students’ learning experience at home. Even though my school site has achieved significant advances in providing students with Chromebooks and hot spots, there are students with IEPs who continuously struggle connecting to and engaging in classes because their head hurts from the tremendous amount of screen time. They do not know how to effectively use their Chromebook features (i.e., the mouse touchpad). Students must be given adequate tools to ensure equity in the virtual classroom. A simple tool like a mouse could help increase students’ comfort and confidence when using their Chromebook, which would decrease the likelihood of them “shutting down.” In contrast, students’ productivity would increase when given tangible supports and accommodations.
