We let students choose our novel units in our class. During a class discussion, it was discovered that none of the students in our class had ever heard of Laura Ingalls Wilder nor had they ever visited her homestead in DeSmet, SD. By reading of "Little Town on the Prairie" we hope to give the kids a sense of their own South Dakota history through the eyes of Laura Ingalls when she was of similar age to the students. We ultimately hope to provide a culminating novel experience by taking the students to the Ingalls's Homestead. We hope we can create a living literature experience for our students.

About my class
