The students in our classroom come from low income families and it is proven that by age three children growing up in poor neighborhoods or from lower-income families may hear up to 30 million fewer words than their more privileged counterparts. Therefore, preschool is extremely important for a young child. Children need to be exposed to more vocabulary as well as materials to manipulative and an environment that works on their social skills.
These materials can help evolve my classroom with active learning through play in addition to helping my children with their fine motor and gross motor manipulative skills. I have requested for outdoor play toys because the kids currently do not have any and I would like to help them be able to explore with more sand and mud experiments. I also put a mirror on my order list to help the kids see them selfs after they go outside and play or even each lunch, therefore they can look in the mirror and practice how to wipe/clean their face. Other items I have requested such as Kinetic sand, hammer kit and a play cash register are all items that will let them expand their minds while they play. Other item on my list are to teach independence within our classroom community such as the roll of paper. I want student to enter the art center and learn to set all their items up on their own to begin their art project, including ripping the paper off the roller. Therefore, I believe these materials will help my children expand their imagination and leave no limits on their growth.
