The five boys who entered into my Sculpture 2 class, began the school year as individuals taking a class, but have turned their class into what they like to call "The Men's Sculpture Club." Almost all of them came in without too much interest in the arts. Some are dedicated to our sports and after school programs, while others have drifted away from any school involvement and express to me every day how much they hate being in school. Their home situations, their grades, their interests, their social circles, and their personalities shape their day to day. They are all different in so many ways, but share one common goal; To create the first ever outdoor, large scale mosaic at our school. This project is more than just a beautiful presentation for their peers and community members to see. It means that they are a part of something great, something permanent and will give them a sense of accomplishment that they may not have felt before.
