My students live in suburban town of New Jersey - one of the most diverse places on the planet! My middle-schoolers have art every other day and come in excited (most days) and ready to learn! Throughout the year both 7th and 8th grades get to experience drawing, painting, graphic design, sculpture, and ceramics! My students are at an age where they are very self-conscious, self-critical, and judgmental of others. Building confidence in one's skills in art is huge for their self-esteem. Learning how to judge and respond to artwork can instill a civil sense of appropriate judgments outside of art... at one another and at one's self. As we plant seeds of imagination today, we cultivate a more creative and accepting society for tomorrow.
