I am requesting funds to pay for trauma-informed yoga training so I can further integrate mindfulness and yoga into my classroom. Yoga can be a powerful tool for helping children who have experience trauma learn ways to overcome barriers due to their adverse childhood experiences. I would like to complete this training so I am able to offer yoga and mindfulness classes to students before or after school.
I will learn ways to combine yoga, mindfulness, breathing, and guided relaxation techniques which have been specifically designed to improve resiliency and capacity for people who have experienced trauma. Specifically, this training has been developed to use with children who have a history of trauma and survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. Additionally, it has been designed for veterans and people who experience higher than average stress in their workplace or lives. I have already had success using mindfulness in my classroom by doing breathing techniques and positive affirmations with my students. These techniques have created a calm and peaceful routine to the start of our class and I would like to learn additional ways to help my students so they are able to be more successful in and out of my classroom.
